More training

I cant believe it! I have managed to blog twice in 2 weeks! That has to be some kind of record for me over the last couple of months. The other side of this of course is that I have been doing a bit of training as well.

Thursday - 1.5 hr on the bike
Friday - 20min run
Sunday - 1.5 hr on bike/10min run and a 30 min run.

My legs are feeling a little tender tonight after the brick, they were already a little sore as I went out dancing the other night, and so they are still in the process of recovering. I also ran the brick part of my session this morning some what in an impromptu fashion without shoes on, which wasnt the best idea ever. The goal was to put in about 20mins, but without shoes my feet were not being my friends.

Hopefully this week I will be able to click up some more ks on both the bike and on the running.

Where am I at!

Mmm, where have I been? Since the last posting, I have been dancing with the time to train and the reasons as to why I do!

I have had an ok week so far, after being out with a cold for a couple of weeks just as I was gaining momentum with my training!

Sat - 2hr 45k hill ride around the town in the crazy wind
Sun - 1 hr walk
Mon - 45 mins at high RPM on the Wind Trainer
Tues - 1.5hr on the bike and 3k run in 18.42

I have signed up for the Pink Tri in Oct with the hope of smashing the dismal time i did last yr. Unable to swim too much, so am looking for short races to minimise the swimming component.

Back on the horse...well so to speak!

Hey All,

Have been flat out at work, and have been feeling a bit under the weather so not much exercise to note...however, i did speand 4 hours snowboarding for work last week, and instead of catching the lift up the hill I was walking it...which I am sure does great things for my cardiovascualar system....

So yesterday I went and played football in the park for 40 mins or so, and most of the time I was jogging about....

Today - 30 min run covered about 4 K, trying to take it fairly easy today...my muscles and joints have been really sore the last couple of weeks, so just cruised around....

Races Coming Up...

1. Bay Run - 27 July - Did this last year its a 7K lap of the Bay Run in Drummoyne...
2. Pink Tri - 18 Oct - Again did this last yr and it was dismall, so this year I am going to do better!
3. Maybe one of the local newcastle events that pop up later in the year. Am going to do some serious training for tri this year and smash it!

Wow! It has been ages since I posted anything! What a slack ass! I would like to say that I havent been able to post because I have been so flat out training that I havent had a chance to blog, but unfortunatley there are other things that have been stopping the blogging!

1. I have only just got the internet back. And in my experience, without the internet it is incredibly hard to blog...the carrier pigeons just cant get the message right!
2. I have been flat stick at work. Camps, Camps, and some more camps. The last couple of weeks I have been thrashed, with heaps and heaps (more than normal) happening...
3. I have been writing my thesis, and have a couple of re-writes to do and then will be done..of course I cant hand it in until i finish all of my placement hours (only 100 days...) but then it will be Dr Lins thankyou very much!

So despite all of this, I have been managing to get some training in. My shoulder and neck have been giving me lots of grief of late which no doubt is the direct result of the amount of work that I have been doing on my laptop which is hindered by cycling or so it would seem...

This week...
Monday - Pilates - 40 mins (In an attempt to strengthen the dodgy muscle)
Tuesday - 20 Min run and 1 hr swim
Wednesday- 30 mins on the wind trainer (stupid rain)
Thursday - 15 mins sprint and strength training
Friday - 20 min hill run

Tommorrow I am planning on taking Vanessa for an adventure while I am in syd and see what I can find.....amazingly running seems to help my neck and shoulder (probably because my posture is better when I run) so I have been trying to do a bit more, and trying to get at least one swim session in a week.

I have also been surfing (I use this term very loosley) I try and surf...mostly I fall down, but I am having heaps of fun doing it, so I guess it doesnt matter.

So enough about me...how have you been?

Lands with long white clouds...apparently!

Ok so here I am in Auckland, and have been here for a couple of weeks (working mostly) now I am just bumming around for a couple of days before I fly home!

Its taken me all this time to discover that Auckland does actually have a soul (albeit a small one), first impressions definatley lend the good kiwi capital to being a smaller, less stuff to do version of syd. However, today, I have cruised around and had a good look at the thinks that be here, and I am convinced that somewhere deep below the cult like consumerism, there may be something else. I have wandered the entire city today, looking for something to do (my cycling plans got destroyed by the rain) and if nothing else, me and another million kiwis have done some shopping. Yesterday, I headed out to Waiheke Island, hired a bike and went me for a ride. My god there were some massive hills out there, so much so, that I voluntarily jumped off the dogdy mountain bike (I didnt name her) and sat for a bit. I figure its ok for me to do that though, right? Cause I am on holidays....And tommorrow I am planning to hire a bike and ride around the city, my very tourist guide tells me its 50k so lets just see huh? The drivers in this fair city are far from cyclist friendly, and there are very few bike lanes anywhere....maybe then a little trip out the volcanic island for a bit of a look see. Its meant to take an hour to walk up...I might just try running i think.

The camp that I came on with the NZ CanTeen was awesome, and as with all of my work, I met some amazing and incredible people. Unfortunatley, I did learn a couple of days ago that a friend had passed away from Breast Cancer in Australia last friday, whilst I was over here. Very shocking. it does just highlight how fragile life is though (even though I am reminded daily) she ran the bridge to bridge after she was diagnosed and was up the day after major surgery. An amazing woman.

Anywhoo...have been doing a bit of training over here, but not much, just a couple of runs, and the cycling yeaterday. I have decided that if I dont run under an hour for the 10k in Melb in Feb, I am going to start focusing more on cycling, and looking to be a bit more competetive in it!

Merry Christmas all.

T :)

Long posting...

Ok, so I am anticipating that this may be a long post, as it has been a while (i have been flat stick) so for your convienience I have broken it into segments...(Im not 100% convinced that anyone reads this, sometimes I think I am my own audience!)

Training, Racing and all that jazz..

Well I have raced my first race in a couple of years (well since I fell off my bike in the syd to wollongong last year) and it went ok. By ok, I mean, I put in very little effort as it turns out, and got to the end without sweating or breathing hard, maybe I didnt work hard enough. It was the womens breast cancer event at Homebush on the 20th Oct. It was pretty short, but the longest distance they offered which was 350/9/3. The swim went well with me coming 2 in my wave of 10, except that my arm cramped about 250m in which meant that there was a chunk of breaststroke which wasnt great, but never mind. Am taking this with a grain of salt considering that I had only been given the ok to swim about 2 weeks before the race, so obviously hadnt put nearly enough training in. The bike was a 3k loop on a paved walkway (not ideal under the tyres) but managed it pretty quickly, the run was just bad as always (i hate the run) and walked when I probably didnt need to cause I was being lazy. I also managed to tip a cup of gatorade over my head when I asked the guy if it was water and he said yes, and it wasnt. It was a little offputting to say the least. So I think i did it in about 50mins. Not awesome, but a nice lead back into racing.

Training has been going ok, I have been putting in some serious hill training in prep for the camden haven tri (knowing that the hills are a bit nasty when you are tired), and have been trying to get a couple of training sessions in a day. Am up to about 1k in the pool at the moment, although it is still a bit painful I am getting there. Pretty pumped about having a couple of weeks off during chrissy so I can get the bike out on some of those quiet country roads up the coast!
One of the guys I know is also trying to convince me to do some road racing on the bike that I am almost considering given that I am not getting any better at this tri business and i am not too bad on the bike (its all relative mind you).

Life, Work, Uni and the rest
I have been incredibly busy with finishing up my coursework for my degree (dont get too excited I still have to write a thesis and do 2 placements) but that has been a bit hectic. In addition to this, work has been flat out but on the upside, I am heading to NZ for a couple of weeks before christmas for work, and then camping for most of Jan which will be awesome!
I am struggling to be a consistent friend at the moment between uni, work, travelling up and down the freeway and trying to train as well. I was going to be aiming to train 2 hrs per day at this time of year, but it just cant happen. At the moment, I am in the middle of the north west of nsw on a regional trip and training ops are limited, with mostly running being the thing that can be done.
Enough about me, how have you been?
