My Run (Well attempted run!)

As promised i attempted to do the bar beach run again yesterday....

it ended up being about 30 degrees when i was running and as a result struggled a bit more than normal. That and the fact that my cycling legs were a bit sore from the cycling on sunday and monday.

Anyway, i did the first half in 20 minutes and the second half in 17 again. Which also means that i must be running faster cause i walked more then normal...well i guess that is something. After that i needed to have my mentos to make my head stop spinning.

Have made a docs appointment for tommorrow to help me work out why i am so tired and am lacking incredible energy....

the week that was :)

Mmm one day i will actually update this blog on a semi regular basis....

anywhoo.

Have had a bit of a big week and have started to get back into training a bit more again which is a good thing and have settled down a bit....but all in time...

Friday
Got home from work a bit late and had a drinking and dinner date so i had to do some stuff fast....went and did a 2k time trial and did the first K in 6minutes and the second one in 5! Whoot! I have done the under 6 thing again...good work I say. I actually didnt feel too bad at the end, but i think the psychological thing about when i start running is messing with my times. am thinking i need to have more of a warm up before i start running and hopefully see my first k times drop down a bit.

I then went out with A and A and had some KFC for dinner which is obviously doing good things to the body following training :P Had a few beers and was tucked up on bed by 2am.

Saturday
Had a bit of a lazy day today and just layed in bed, went shopping, tried to spend $100 at REBEL with a gift voucher and couldnt find stuff...Tried to buy some cycling gear and it was all ugly, then i tried to buy some new running shoes, which didnt fit. I also thought about a cycling computer, but then the lady wouldnt open the cabinet. So i bought a helmet, subsequently forgot about the voucher and then paid for it anyway...grr. Much to the amusement of others :)

Had awesome food at this pub in town and then went out and saw a friend of a friends band 'Urban Groove" at the sleaziest pub in newcastle. MMM. The music was good though and that made me happy...came home and had a nap.

Sunday
A and I got up and went to my last club race of the season (well what i thought was the last club race). Was massivley nervous because i had never had people watch me before, let alone people who i am still attempting to impress :p. Bec and Helen also rocked up about 2 minutes before i jumped in the water so was really feeling it towards the start. The water was freezing and i was standing in the pool for probably about 10 minutes before we started racing which means i was starting to cramp up etc and was really unnerved before i started. Struggled in the swim and got out of the water very close to the end. Which was a bit of a worry for me, as the swim is normally the best leg, so i was setting myself up for the 'oh dear this race isnt going to be fantastic'.

Anyway, jumped on the bike, overtook a couple of people, and the legs were really aching. I was breathing hard and felt like i was going to be dying. For the first time in a race, I actually considered stopping. I didnt though, and i pushed over the massive hill and then was feeling better. bloody psychology....managed to go down the hill without my brakes on and according to my spectators i made up quite a bit of time on the ride. I walked into transition and was over it. I wanted to stop. But i didnt. I also nearly knocked a little kid off his bike, but i wont talk about that since I would assume that his parents would have told him about the whole drafting and overtaking thing but anyway.....

The run was kinder to me than normal, but still not fantastic. Walked probably 300m of it and managed to run a bit and not be overtaken on it....good work. Finished ok and then had my blue powerade. The thing that kept me happening on the run i think was the whole knowing that i was going back to someone who would be smiling regardless of whether i was coming first or last....

Bec and bec then cooked us breakfast which i scoffed down, and made the lightheadedness go away...yes i know, i need to eat before i race. i know i am a bad triathlete :) *lins slaps her own wrists* went home and slept for hours, watched a movie and went back to bed.

Monday
Worked on monday and came home and jumped on my bike. Cycled up the nobbys beach and around past the hospital and down king st and back home. Felt awesome once i got off, despite the massive headwind which was hitting me both going in and going out. Took me about 35mins i think and that was pushing it a bit. The body is feeling good at the moment.

I then went out and fed my face with mexican food! yeah i know, what do you do?

So today, I am going to go and do the run along bar beach again and hoping to add some more time on. I should be doing the data coding for my thesis, but it isnt working so i now have the shits and am updating my blog instead.

Cycling and being lazy

Well as promised on Wednesday I went for a ride into a massive headwind, and i tottled hilary and me around to the beach and then up to king edward park...i was overtaken by a guy from the Kooragang Island club who flew past me and i felt degraded. oh well. you get that!

The bad part of my ride was that hilary and i was coming down the hill and hilary's chain fell off the back ring. That = bad. Freaked me out, and i havent been back on hilary yet...

Yesterday, I had all the intentions of going for a run and doing a 2k trial, but the temptation of thai food and beer with good company was too much. so i did that instead....god i am a slacker...

One of the best things which has happened in the last little while is the fact that i have dropped down to part time at work, so that i can be more productive around the uni/thesis thing! however, the added perk is I get 2 days in the middle of the week to train :)

So, yesterday, I went and had lunch and then decided that I would go for a run along the beach...not on the beach mind you, along the little pathy bits...i decided to run along the bathers way in merewether which for those who dont know it takes you past the ocean baths, along dixon park beach, past bar beach and then up to strezlecki lookout...its about 5k return which isnt too bad, except that in the middle of this is 2 kick ass hills. The first one is a steep short climb which is probably 100m long....the second is the dreaded bar beach hill, which i have gotten off my bike and refused to ride up....its probably about 500m of reasonable climbing...so anywho. the first 2.5k to the turnaround at the top of the hill took me exactly 20mins....the return took me 16 as you would expect with the big dirty hill out of the way....although its good to see that my 5k time may have improved slightly...

Am feeling a bit sore at the moment though, this was probably the closest to a long run that i have had for some time. Might give it another go next week, and add some time on. The body isnt used to running on hills any more. Think it is time to go and visit the parents and use them for thier dodgy roads and steep hills :)

The tri season for me is over this weekend :( Have a club race on and then i am done. However, thinking about joining the cycling club so i can improve that more and then keeping the running happening 3 times per week. Maybe a swim here or there? Am looking to get some spectators happenign this week i think...make me feel like and olympian :)

mmm. well now i have sprouted on for a time.....

there is a thesis to be written :) Oh and i am going to ride to king edward park...stay posted :)

Whoot! I have a trophy!

mmm. ok so the slack blogger returns :)

Not much really happened in the last week, but lets give it a go :)
I was a slacko last week and didnt really do any training until Friday night, I had a horrendus week at work and I have been a bit distracted by some other stuff that is happening...for example, I should be writing a thesis...grrr.

On friday arvo, I donned my running shoes and covered about 3 k took me 24mins. Was wanting to do more, but ran out of sunshine. Its weird. I dont like running, but yet i crave it if i dont do it...strange. I am thinking that I need to get more happening and then i migth start to like it...not holding out hope though :p In addition to this, I have started wearing my watch again to train and i dont think it helps, because i focus way too much on the time and not on the actual running itself...

Saturday, I had to go to my parents place in Port Macq and was planning on getting a run in, cause i couldnt take my bike...it then preceeded to rain for a good chunk of time. So, Instead i spent 30minutes on my mums eliptical trainer which is on the hardest setting and cant be changed! wow...there was sweating, and i would imagine i probably worked harder than if i were running anyway...

Sunday we had the Sparke Helmore corporate tri on in which i donned the swimmers and braved the horrible water in newcastle harbour. I have never done an open water ocean swim before and I was suitably freaked out. What made this worse, was that 250m into the swim you get up, run out on the sand, around some flags and then swim anouther 250m before a soft sand run for 300m to the transition...grr. I also got kicked in the head twice and had a girl grab my ankle and twist it. I had an absolute shocker and didnt get out of the water until about 10th last i would imagine. Note, more practice is needed for this. Think my anxiety is playing tricks on me, although i found my rhythm about 100 metres before i was ready to get out! :)

Anyways, the other 2 did awesome and we ended up coming third...watch this space for photos people!
Following the event, drinks and sleep were had. Oh and fried food...mmm fried....

Am loving life at the moment and feel really good. Some good stuff has been going on of late, and although i havent been as happy as i could be in some areas of my life, the other good parts are more than making up for it. That and the first ever sporting trophy of course :P My mum is now lining up my olympic campaign...

I am alive!

Hey All,

I know i have disappeared for a couple of days....(a week!) but now i am back :)

What have i been up to....nothing really! Lets see. The training has been a bit slack of late as we know. i went running once or twice last week, and have been cycling around a bit as i am lacking my transport still.

I had a reasonably sized fast ride on Tuesday, then rode to the train station and back on Wednesday which is probably 5k or so. So nothing really of merit. Went for a run on friday night which was filled with pain and struggle and the 50 minutes i ran for felt more like 6 hours. No seriously. I just couldnt seem to find the rythm i was after and had to stop for water twice. Think i dont drink enough during the day and get dyhydrated while i am doing it? any ideas?

Saturday i went bridal shoping and then bought some knicks! my first pair! whoot :) although i must admit, i look a bit silly in them...

Then yesterday. I did the 50K Loop the lake ride! Ok, so I was expecting less hills then there were....but i managed to finish in around 2.5 hours which i was happy with. thhe first 30k was pretty much all hill riding, with some very slow steep parts which made me change down a cog. I rode the first 15 in the big wheel and then had to drop it down which i dont like doing cause its really hard to get it back on again (poor hillary!). Anyway....what was really cool though, was I was fine going up the hills and actually felt quite strong through it, but the going down is where i have the issues, cause i freak that i am going to fall down, and then put my brakes on :) I think my career as a Luge rider is limited!

Anyway, have pulled up with some sore shoulders this morning, but apart from that, all good! think it may have had something to do with the backpack i had to lug around :)

My 15th date....one word. Amazing.

My weekend in review!

Ok, so the plans may have become a little sidetracked over the course of the weekend...i knew that planning it wouldnt really help me out much, but it was worth a try wasnt it? *lindsay looks encouragable*

So friday night, a friend of mine got a new job on friday so beer was consumed and dinner was had. Running was not done. I like beer. Instead i had fallen asleep on the couch by 9:30 watching a doco on this fertility doctor who was a very very bad man.

Anyway, woke up on saturday morning and headed down to syd where after taking a big chunk of inner voice motivation, and went for a run from Glebe down to Glebe point park around the water and up to annandale and back. We know i run slowly and it took me about an 50minutes return which wasnt too bad considering that i had had a couple of weeks off solid running...i must be doing something to keep me fit...anyway. i was feeling pretty good and didnt really raise the heartrate that much, with just a bit heavier breathing than normal (for those who dont know me i normally breathe like a phone sex operator so :P) . Although the surprising thing was, I came back to my sisters place and was having a drink and reading the paper and passed out with my head in the paper to wake up an hour later...weird!

I then tottled myself off to Mardi Gras and watched my sister in the parade (The irony is astonding) before that, we had some awesome italian food, and then were all feeling very ill/headachey later on so went and crashed out, but not before a psycho cabby informed us that gay people dont procreate and he doesnt understand the inclination...then he tried to slam us into traffic. Hate that. Grrr.

Sunday I was feeling a bit off, so slept a big chunk of the morning and then went shopping. I had a fever and stuff, so still no training....had many smiles with one of my friends though :)

Came home yesterday morning and then layed around the house for a bit with some very good company, and finally managed to go for a bit of a ride out to the beach and back and had a bit of a stop at Harry's on the way home. Then i had icecream for dinner.

Sprinted my ass on my bike into my meeting with my supervisor this morning into a massive headwind which did things to my legs which they havent been used to for a while. But they coped! Now the 50k race on the weekend...lets see how this goes!

I am working from home now...cant u tell. Look how productive i am being. :)

p.s i think my 10th date went well...i hope i have an 11th in the pipeline.

My Weekend!

Ok, so my plan is that if i write down what i am planning on doing with my training on the weekend then I will be able to stick to it better....well lets see :)

So tonight, I am going to either go for a short run or a bit of a cycle depending on weather, time etc. Then i am going to go home, lay in the bath, have a beer and then no doubt be snug in bed by 10pm. I am so sleepy, i have literally had 8 hours sleep in the last 2 days and the brain is saying, dear god stop.

Tommorrow morning i am going to aim to ride before heading off to syd for Mardi Gras :) We will see how that goes. If i train it down due to said car still being out of action, then i may take the bike so i can ride myself about the town...will also aim for a run tommorrow.

Sunday. Someoone silly forgot to register for the penrith sprint. I am an idiot. So, i have emailed the nice people to see if i can forward an email copy of the form and payment and then arrange it then, really keen to race, cause its an awesome course etc. However, this would mean getting myself out there at 5:30 in the morning on a sunday on public transport after mardi gras...not sure how this would work.

apart from this. I am going to buy pant. and a light for my bike. and a thumb drive. wow my life is exciting.

Have to say though, I am feeling really awesome in myself right now. There have been some very good things happening and i think it is all coming together...now if i could stop taking neurofen and start training again. everythiing would be good.

date number 10. *toni runs around dick van dyke style kicking and dancing with an umbrella*

a llittle better :)

ok. well i had a week off training. that was strange. but i went for a ride last night on hilary following the complete bastard of a day.

it felt so good! it was like getting on a bike with a brand new set of legs, but which already had the muscles to make the bike go fast. it had been raining and it was dark, so it was nice and quiet and cool and i was just able to ride and not have to worry about pedestrians or traffic. I had a cat run out in front of me though....

thats one of the things which i love so much about riding is that i can turn off my brain and push mayself hard whilst thinking about whatever is bugging me...after about 10 minutes i had calmed right down and was singing to the good people of carrington. I am thinking a light may be a good idea so i can do this more often, I like it.

I probably ended up covering about 10k, i dont really know how long i ran for, i just had to do something :) feel better for it, although the stomach is still giving me alot of grief and am still swallowing copius amounts of neurofen....

what made my day much better was coming home to smiles though :)
