i think i can, i think i can!

ok lets see!

I had a couple of days off last week...i will confess it straight up, was having some motivation issues as well as some personal stuff happening so i skipped 3 days i think...yep, they say confession is good for the soul :)

Sunday
i went out for a bit of a jog, i think i was aiming to do about 6k i probably ended up doing 5.7k or therabouts and i walked a little bit...it took me 40mins with the walking which i am guessing was about 300metres or so....

Monday
I got home late from work and in between work and monday night mexican i went for a 4k run along the foreshore in the freezing cold. I love running in the dark in winter..it is the most awesome feeling of being so hot, but cold at the same time. I donned my black singlet and a beanie, so looked a bit androygenous in the deal! anyway, 22mins it was...

Today
Had to ride to uni and also had to stop twice on the way there (once flying down a big hill) because hilary's chain had pushed off the derailier. Grrr. I then had to do this on the way back, at a major intersection...A is lecturing me about perhaps not training on hilary anymore. Can i justify starting to train on my hybrid again? how much good am i going to loose? Anyway the way there i avg about 19k (massive wind and hills) and on the way back it was not under 30-35 the whole way (better wind!). About 15k all up i think...

I then went for a bit of a run 2.4k in 16mins...

Long run tommorrow...100mins it is :) I am going to get fit enough for this half if it kills me :)

Running, Running and more Running!

So on sunday, i decided that i would do my normal 2k run and find out whether i had in fact gotten any faster with all of the long runs that i had been doing. To my surprise, I managed the first k in 4.5mins and the second in 5. I possibly went a little too hard in the first one, but i figure that is still a bit of an improvement than a couple of months ago, when i was looking about 7mins per k....

Monday night, I had all good intentions to go for a ride, but they went by the wayside and i decided that i would lie at home under the doona and watch australian story instead...

Tuesday, I went for a 30min ride into the city to meet a friend for lunch, went home did a 2.6k run (17mins) then went to the gym, did another 30mins on the bike at 100+RPM and a fair chunk of resistance as well as 15mins rowing. I then had KFC for dinner...bad lindsay :)

Today, I went for my long run despite being sore and tired from yesterday. I picked up my favourite training buddy cooper and we went for an hour and 4mins (nothing like an exact science now is there). I was planning on taking it easy today, but quickly remembered when i set out that near coops place is very hilly...so i probably wasnt quite hitting the 8min a k mark that i normally use for the long run, but i would be close...

Oh and that is the infamous cooper i speak off! 35kgs of resistance :)

A considerable post

mmmm. This blogging caper has been a bit forgotten this week!

Thanks, everyone for the help about the bikes, I haven’t gotten to the shops yet to have a look at what I want. I have been having a chat with one of the girls that I work with and she has been telling me very good things about the difference between her old bike which from all accounts is very similar to Hilary and the massive amount of speed and effort reduction that she picked up by changing to a newer lighter bike. I am a bit excited at that prospect. Anyway, enough about bikes, onto the exercise…

Thursday and Friday
I didn’t do any exercise for 2 days cause my knee was a bit sore, and I didn’t want to push it too much. It was also cold. That and I am a lazy ass.

Saturday
Went to my parents place so I got to go and do my favourite 2.5k lap around the hills at Laurieton. I also had a bit of a break (if you can call it that) and did 6 hill repeats which was about a minute up the hill and then a slow minute down. It ended up taking about 30 mins or there about with the 12minutes of hills in the middle.

The knee started to hurt around the 2k mark so I decided that I wouldn’t go for the extra lap. I guess I would have done around 3 – 3.5k in the session.

Sunday
Took cooper for a jog around for about 20mins. Knee feeling fine.

Monday
Jumped on Hilary after work with Sarah and we cruised to the beach and back. Easy ride, don’t think I got above 25k the whole ride, cause sar is a mountain biker so we just cruised and had a chat! Was nice. I liked it. Not sure whether the KFC afterwards was justified though…

Tuesday
Went for an hour ride up to the uni and then back around the beaches. Hilary’s chain fell off the derailer a couple of times that made it a bit harder than I was anticipating. Her gears are working better now, but not much. I actually got off her at one point and walked up a hill because the chain felt like it was going to snap…

I also was offered a job. I declined it later on, but had a massive stress about whether I should do it or not for a good chunk of the ride…

Wednesday
I finally made 10k. I did it slowly, but I did it nonetheless. Managed to run from Carrington to the start of Nobby’s beach and back. My knee was giving me a bit of grief but when I ran on the grass, it got a bit better. Figuring it’s an impact thing. Will try to run some more on the grass. Took me 1:20 to do this run. I am hoping that by the time I get to the event in the hunter valley in July I will be able to get this time down to 1:10 or below….mmmm am I setting goals here?

Thursday
Went to the gym and did a hard 25mins on the bike at 100rpm+ with a big chunk of resistance. I then jumped on the rowing machine and did 5mins. The rowing machine makes me very tired and sweaty…. the nice gym people then turned the lights off and made me leave.

Friday
Was feeling crap in general and took the day off. Drank and fed my face instead.

Saturday
Got up this morning and jumped on Hilary for a long ride (well its long for me…all relative) Rode to Raymond Terrace and back which is just over 50k. Took me 2hrs exactly, but I had to stop several times to put Hilary’s chain back on the derailer. I also had my first drafting experience, with a guy sitting on my back wheel, although I didn’t realise that he was there until I pulled over to fix her chain and he stopped to help me…. thanks kind man! Felt better about the speed I was riding though if he was sitting behind me and not going past…yeah!

Averaged 25kmph and had a max of 46. Due to the suspect gearing, I am having a bit of trouble on the hills at the moment which is making me avg less speed. On the flats, I am sitting comfortably around 30k an hour which isn’t too bad considering…

Was meant to be going for an off road hill run today, but we had to can it because of the rain…tomorrow it is!

Well the news isnt great!

well i took hilary to the shop....yep, apparently tightening the gears wont help, and the $500 it will cost to refit the gears etc it might be an option to do the whole buying a new bike thing...what kind of bike though? i am only about 160cm and 53kg, do i need to buy a womens bike or can i do a small mens one? good brands, cheapness? any ideas anyone *Linds looks flumoxed!* I also have a reasonably new hybrid and a mountain bike mmm, maybe i should trade all three!

anyway, i went for a 1hour and 12 minute run yesterday, and paced myself. The way there i paced at around 8mins a k and then picked it up and took 2 mins off the return trip....however, i now have a bit of a niggle in my knee and figure its just cause i have been spending more time on it. Have taken today off exercise though....

Have also been having some weird pain in my left shoulder which has been coming into my elbow? Not sure if it is a cold thing or a weird massage related thing? Has anyone had anything like this before?

The good news and the Bad news...

well my week so far has been slightly less productive than previously....but i have still managed to get a little bit done...

Wednesday
I did manage to go for the long run i was planning and made it an hour, and the body was hurting quite a bit at the end. Ever since i had my massage a couple of weeks ago, the body hasnt been right, which makes me think that maybe something needs to bere-done. My neck esp and my lower back....might be time to go back to my chiro again...I worked out along my track that i was probably doing about 8mins a k....

Thursday
I dragged my little bum to the pool and did 2k in about 40 something minutes. My swimming feels like it is struggling heaps though at the moment....yes i can hear you all saying it....its because i havent done it for a thousand years....

Friday and Saturday
I managed to not do anything both days cause i was feeling a bit average and was getting the begining stages of a cold.

Sunday
Went for a 40min run and struggled against the wind for all of it, then jumped on my bike and rode out round the harbour for half an hour. Overtook me my first real cyclist btw! :)

Monday
Went to the gym after work and had a lazy one, did 20mins on the bike at 100RPM + and then 10mmins on the olliptical trainer (boring!) and 5mins jog (this was going to be 15 but the chicken burger i had for dinner was not sitting well)

Today
Jumped on my bike and had a cruise around, not actually pushing myself and averaging about 25kmph ended up doing 20k or there abouts in under an hour. I also called into the bike shop on the way, and asked them about hilary's gears as when i get up speed or try and ride up the hill, the chain feels like it is going to snap etc which feels awesome when you are riding in traffic :P

Anywho, the man at the bike shop informed me that they will try and adjust them so they dont do this anymore (the good news) the bad news of course being is that if that doesnt make any difference i will have to get a new front and rear cog, chain and possibly de-railier....the question is how much am i willing to spend on my $50 ebay bike?

Back into it!

Have had a bit of a big couple of days training wise...

Between the last post and friday, i was miserable, cranky and not sleeping. By the end of the week i had a massive spac at several people. Least of which A copped. I worked out that I was feeling punk, a) because of massive work stress, b) general life stress and c) not exercising. I cant believe how much of an impact it has on my mood and general well being.

So after the spac on thursday, it was decided that i am indeed in need of regular exercise and sleep for me to maintain happy Linds...

So here is the exercise for the last couple of days..

Friday
Went for a 2k Swim after work, and yes, i can here you asking. I can still remember how to swim even though it has been months...the shoulders were feeling it on sat though. And just think if i keep it up, i might get my prison bitch arms back :) It took me about 45mins which is a bit slower than i used to be, but what i expected...going to try adn swim twice a week...

Saturday
Despite my best efforts it rained all day, and even though i attempted to take my bike out twice, it kept raining. So i went to the gym on a saturday night (this is really endorsing the not having a life thing isnt it?) I did 40mins on the bike at 100+ RPM and then ran for 10mins at 7.5k per hour.

Sunday
Got up wanting to try my new bike computer and jumped on for what i was hoping was going to be a 2 hour ride. Just had the ks showing up not the time i was travelling for, so i came home to find that i had done 30k and it had taken me 1:15 due to the hills and the wind. My avg speed was about 25k and the max was 38. I am assuming this happened while i was hurtling down a hill somewhere...In the arvo i went for a 30min run which was slow as it was the first proper run in a week due to the ankle. Was feeling a bit buggered by the end, think i did around 4k.

Monday
Went to the gym again as i am assuming that this is how alot of my winter exercise will have to be done. I was on the treadmill for 35mins. OUt of interest i decided that i would do a fitness test and was very disappointed when it informed me that i was very unfit. Bit of a worry. I showed it though..I then continued to run for another 30mins working up every k to a max speed of 10k per hour, which for me is my little legs looking like they are completey indepentant from my body... I then jumped on the bike and did a 10min hill course called kilamenjaro...it didnt feel that hard, and i kept the cadence at over 100 for the whole time.

Tuesday
Decided that i would do an easy cycle today as the legs were feeling a bit tender from the last couple of days. Rode 20ks in 55mins at an avg speed of 21k with a max of 38. had a bit of a headwind for the first half of the ride which no doubt didnt help. Kept the speed over 25k easily coming home though.

Wednesday
I am planning on going for a run any minute now....then a swim tonight...i swear i will!

Oh and as an aside i have managed to do some uni work this week, and may actually get the thesis finished sometime in the current century...
