A considerable post
mmmm. This blogging caper has been a bit forgotten this week!
Thanks, everyone for the help about the bikes, I haven’t gotten to the shops yet to have a look at what I want. I have been having a chat with one of the girls that I work with and she has been telling me very good things about the difference between her old bike which from all accounts is very similar to Hilary and the massive amount of speed and effort reduction that she picked up by changing to a newer lighter bike. I am a bit excited at that prospect. Anyway, enough about bikes, onto the exercise…
Thursday and Friday
I didn’t do any exercise for 2 days cause my knee was a bit sore, and I didn’t want to push it too much. It was also cold. That and I am a lazy ass.
Saturday
Went to my parents place so I got to go and do my favourite 2.5k lap around the hills at Laurieton. I also had a bit of a break (if you can call it that) and did 6 hill repeats which was about a minute up the hill and then a slow minute down. It ended up taking about 30 mins or there about with the 12minutes of hills in the middle.
The knee started to hurt around the 2k mark so I decided that I wouldn’t go for the extra lap. I guess I would have done around 3 – 3.5k in the session.
Sunday
Took cooper for a jog around for about 20mins. Knee feeling fine.
Monday
Jumped on Hilary after work with Sarah and we cruised to the beach and back. Easy ride, don’t think I got above 25k the whole ride, cause sar is a mountain biker so we just cruised and had a chat! Was nice. I liked it. Not sure whether the KFC afterwards was justified though…
Tuesday
Went for an hour ride up to the uni and then back around the beaches. Hilary’s chain fell off the derailer a couple of times that made it a bit harder than I was anticipating. Her gears are working better now, but not much. I actually got off her at one point and walked up a hill because the chain felt like it was going to snap…
I also was offered a job. I declined it later on, but had a massive stress about whether I should do it or not for a good chunk of the ride…
Wednesday
I finally made 10k. I did it slowly, but I did it nonetheless. Managed to run from Carrington to the start of Nobby’s beach and back. My knee was giving me a bit of grief but when I ran on the grass, it got a bit better. Figuring it’s an impact thing. Will try to run some more on the grass. Took me 1:20 to do this run. I am hoping that by the time I get to the event in the hunter valley in July I will be able to get this time down to 1:10 or below….mmmm am I setting goals here?
Thursday
Went to the gym and did a hard 25mins on the bike at 100rpm+ with a big chunk of resistance. I then jumped on the rowing machine and did 5mins. The rowing machine makes me very tired and sweaty…. the nice gym people then turned the lights off and made me leave.
Friday
Was feeling crap in general and took the day off. Drank and fed my face instead.
Saturday
Got up this morning and jumped on Hilary for a long ride (well its long for me…all relative) Rode to Raymond Terrace and back which is just over 50k. Took me 2hrs exactly, but I had to stop several times to put Hilary’s chain back on the derailer. I also had my first drafting experience, with a guy sitting on my back wheel, although I didn’t realise that he was there until I pulled over to fix her chain and he stopped to help me…. thanks kind man! Felt better about the speed I was riding though if he was sitting behind me and not going past…yeah!
Averaged 25kmph and had a max of 46. Due to the suspect gearing, I am having a bit of trouble on the hills at the moment which is making me avg less speed. On the flats, I am sitting comfortably around 30k an hour which isn’t too bad considering…
Was meant to be going for an off road hill run today, but we had to can it because of the rain…tomorrow it is!

Sounds like a cool mix of stuff this week. 50k is a long ride for me too! Hope that knee doesn't get any worse.
